Report on gas research, January 2015.

There is a new report on gas research at Holuhraun. 14 scientists from Iceland and other countries were at the eruption site during this week, for the first time after a 6 week break.
This is an image of the composition of the gas:

In an interview, one of the scientists emphasized, that the sulfur compounds are still a matter of concern. They can change into pm (particle matter), as such be redistributed over long distances by the wind, and have a negative influence on health, environment and even climate.

The SO2 emission at Holuhraun surmounts by far the emissions of other comparable volcanoes like Etna, Kilauea and even of the Laki eruption series during the 18th century, see below image.
